Pre-launch, Chris experienced his first trip to Comic Con to reveal Funky3DFaces mini figures to some other wannabe super heroes…
As part of our market testing, back in November I experienced the phenomenon that is Comic Con at Birmingham NEC for the first time. What would the 40,000 visitors and hundreds of exhibitors make of our personalised 3D mini heroes?
If you’ve never been to a Comic Con event, let me tell you it’s an amazing experience. Every sci-fi character and super hero you could name must have been there. You couldn’t move for Stormtroopers, elves, anime characters and the heroes and villains from Game of Thrones, Farscape and other cult programmes and movies. There were also creatures I’d never come across before, which I can only describe as ‘beings’. I was definitely under-dressed for the occasion.
Despite that, the event was terrific and our little personalised 3D buddies were a big hit, confirming that we definitely had a market out there. After our soft launch in December, it wasn’t long before we showed up on Nerdist.com and Mashable.com before appearing in mainstream media including The Daily Telegraph, the New York Daily News, and specialist online sites such as toynews-online.
The media response has been incredible, and we’re still continuing to see global interest, with TV appearances scheduled for NBC’s Today programme and, here in the UK, on The Wright Stuff, in the next week or so.
Our growing sales mean that we’ll shortly be taking on a handful of extra staff and moving to new business premises. Watch this space!
